Did Google remove its 3D animals?

Not all of them. In April 2024 many disappeared, and the news said the dinosaurs were gone. When we checked by hand on September 27, 2026, 26 of the 45 animals we looked for showed View in 3D, including the tiger, the lion and the T. rex. Others, like the elephant, the dragon and the unicorn, didn't.

Can I see a T. rex in 3D on Google?

Yes. On our check, searching “t rex” showed View in 3D on both phones. Our own T. rex can stand in your room too, on our T. rex page.

Do Google's 3D animals work on a computer?

No. The View in 3D button only shows on phones and tablets. On a computer you can spin our animals on this page and scan a code to open it on a phone or tablet.

Do they work on iPhone and iPad?

On iPhone, yes: they worked for us in Safari, in Chrome and in a Safari private tab. We haven't tested an iPad yet. People report that Safari on iPad can open the computer version of Google, which has no button; choose Request Mobile Website in the aA menu.

No. Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone worked for us. Our own animals on this page need no app either.

How can I see 3D animals online for free?

Search the animal's name on Google on a phone or tablet and tap View in 3D, if it's in the list. For animals Google doesn't have, like the rooster and the red fox, use the ones on this page. Both are free and need nothing installed.

Are the 3D animals life-size?

Google says its animals are life-size, and you can pinch to resize them. Ours are smaller, sized to fit in a living room.

Q: Which animals can you see in 3D on Google?

On September 27, 2026 we found: tiger, lion, panda, red panda, cheetah, bear, wolf, raccoon, hedgehog, giraffe, quokka, fennec fox, donkey, pony, alpine goat, cat, dog, pug, great white shark, octopus, alligator, ball python, penguin, eagle, macaw, t. rex. Google changes this often, so check the list on this page.

Remember the tiger in the living room in 2020? You looked up “tiger” on a phone, tapped View in 3D, and there it was, next to the sofa. Then in 2024 the news said Google had taken most of its 3D animals away.

So we checked, one animal at a time, on two real phones. Lots of them are back. Some only turn up under their exact name, though, and the farm is nearly empty. Below is the whole list, how to find them, and a few animals Google doesn't have that you can put in your room right here, with no app.

Does Google still have 3D animals?

Yes. Fewer than before, and they come and go, but on September 27, 2026 we found 26 of the 45 animals we looked for.

2019
Google adds 3D animals to Search. Look up a tiger on a phone, tap View in 3D, and it stands in your room. (9to5Google, May 2019)
2020 and 2021
Lockdown makes them famous. Google adds dinosaurs in June 2020, then more animals, like an arctic fox in 2021. (Google, June 2020; Google, October 2021)
April 2024
Most of the animals disappear, the dinosaurs too. The news counts about 25 left, among them the tiger, a dragon and a unicorn. (9to5Google, April 30, 2024; The Verge, April 2024)
May 2024
Google says it hasn't removed anything: the 3D animals live in the boxes beside the results, and those change from search to search. (9to5Google, May 1, 2024)

We check 45 animals by hand on two phones. 26 show View in 3D, the tiger and the T. rex among them. The dragon and the unicorn are gone. See the list.

How we checked

What we did, and what we didn't

On September 27, 2026, we searched each animal in English on Google: on an Android phone in Chrome, and on an iPhone in Safari.
When View in 3D showed, we tapped it and put the animal on the floor. Every animal with the button also stood in the room.
When one phone showed nothing, we didn't always repeat it on the other. Those say “Not checked”.
We live in Greece. Google can show different results in other countries, so yours may differ. Tell us at info@madeofyou.com.

Worth knowing

Type the exact name

Some animals only turn up under their full name. Plain “shark” gave us nothing, but “great white shark” swam into the room. And when a word means something else too, Google may show that instead: “fox” brought up the news channel.

How to see Google's 3D animals

It takes about ten seconds once you know where to look. You need a phone or tablet and an internet connection, and nothing to install.

iPhone

1Open Safari (Chrome worked for us too) and go to google.com.
2Type the animal's name, like “tiger”.
3Scroll down past Google's AI answer to the 3D box (it may say “Meet a life-sized tiger up close”), and tap View in 3D.
4Tap AR at the top, allow the camera, point at the floor and move slowly.

Android phone or tablet

1Open Chrome and go to google.com.
2Type the animal's name, like “tiger”.
3Scroll down past Google's AI answer and tap View in 3D.
4Tap View in your space, allow the camera and point at the floor.

On our phone, the Google app and a Chrome incognito tab showed no button for the tiger. A normal Chrome tab did. No “View in your space”? Your phone or tablet may not be on Google's ARCore list, or Google Play Services for AR needs an update. (Google, Scene Viewer)

iPad

Why can't I see the View in 3D button?

The animal isn't there right now. Google adds and removes them. Check the list.

Try the exact name. “Great white shark”, not “shark”. The names that worked.

Scroll further down. On our Android phone, every View in 3D box sat under Google's AI answer.

Use Chrome or Safari. On our Android phone, the Google app showed nothing for the tiger while Chrome showed it.

Try a normal tab. A private tab worked on our iPhone, but a Chrome incognito tab on our Android phone showed nothing.

Use a phone or tablet. Computers don't get the button, and an iPad may be showing the computer version of Google (see the iPad steps above).

It spins but won't stand in your room? On Android, that usually means the device isn't on Google's ARCore list, or Google Play Services for AR needs an update. (Google, ARCore supported devices; Google, Scene Viewer)

Animals Google doesn't have

When we checked, Google had no rooster, no red fox, no cow, sheep or rabbit, and no Apatosaurus or Carnotaurus. Our books have all of them. Two can stand in your room right here: on a phone or tablet, tap “See it in your room” and point at the floor.

Google's animals are life-size. Ours aren't: we sized every one of them to fit in a living room, and you can pinch to make it bigger or smaller.

Walk around a life-size tiger.
Google's tiger is as big as a real one. Count your steps from its nose to the tip of its tail.
Put a giraffe in the kitchen.
It's life-size too. How much of it fits under your ceiling?
Take a photo.
Put a penguin on the bed or an octopus in the bath, take a screenshot, and print it for the fridge.
Draw it from three sides.
Walk around the animal and draw it from the front, the side and the top. Our free printable has the boxes.
Guess it from its shadow.
Our animal riddles each have a shadow picture. Guess first, then find the animal in 3D.
Compare a real size.
