Multiplication wheels

A times table drawn as a circle. Fill one in here, then print your own.

The table's number sits in the middle and the numbers 1 to 12 stand around it. Multiply each of them by the number in the middle and write the answer in the outer ring. Tap a wedge and type, or go straight to the wheels to print: there is one for every table from 1 to 12.

Multiplication wheel worksheets to print

  1. Page 1

    One big wheel, in order

The numbers run from 1 to 12 like a clock. This is the one for learning the table.

The same sums in another order. Time the first wheel and try to beat it on the second.

  3. Page 3

    Two wheels, turned around

The answers are printed and the numbers are missing, which is a first step towards division.

A blank wheel, and all twelve in one booklet

The blank multiplication wheel has an empty middle. Write in 13, or 25, or the one table that needs another go. A teacher can write a different number on every copy.

The booklet is the big wheel of every table, 1 to 12, in a single file with two pages of answers at the end. Staple it down the side and it is a small workbook. On A4 it is headed “Times tables booklet”.

Four steps

How to use a multiplication wheel

  1. 1Look at the number in the middle. That is the table.
  2. 2Pick any number in the ring around it, and multiply the two.
  3. 3Write the answer in the outer ring, in the same wedge.
  4. 4Go round until the ring is full. Then check it against the answer page.

The same sums, another shape

Why a wheel helps

A wheel holds the same twelve sums as a worksheet. But it has no first line and no last line, so a child can start anywhere, fill in the easy wedges first and leave 7 × 8 for the end.

It also looks a lot less like a test, and on some days that is ALL that matters.

When the wheels get easy, move on to a worksheet with the tables mixed, or see the order we learn the tables in.

Questions

Grown-ups ask

What is a multiplication wheel?
A times table drawn as a circle. The table's number sits in the middle, the numbers 1 to 12 stand in a ring around it, and an empty outer ring waits for the answers. In the UK it is also called a times table wheel. (Shops sell a toy spinner under the same name. This page is about the kind you write on.)
How do you fill in a multiplication wheel?
Take a number from the ring, multiply it by the number in the middle, and write the answer in the outer ring, in the same wedge. Then go round until all twelve wedges are full. You can start anywhere. The wheel at the top of this page works the same way.
Which times tables do the wheels cover?
Every table from 1 to 12, each multiplied by the numbers 1 to 12, so the biggest answer is 12 × 12 = 144. For anything else, print the blank wheel and write your own number in the middle.
Where are the answers to the wheels?
On the last page of each file. A table's PDF has three pages of wheels and a fourth page with every one of them filled in. The booklet ends with two pages of answers.
Can a multiplication wheel help with division?
Page 3 of each file turns the wheel around: the answers are printed and the numbers are missing. A child who works out that 56 is 8 times 7 is one small step from 56 divided by 8.
Does the wheel on this page keep my child's answers?
No. It runs in your browser, sends nothing anywhere and forgets everything when you leave the page. There is no account and no sign-up.

Our own book

A way into every table

For grown-ups · it comes out in November 2026

A wheel goes round every table in the same way. Our times tables book gives each table a way in of its own: the 4s are the 2s doubled, the 9s have a finger trick, and the 11s are the number written twice.

It also teaches them in an order where the last tables have almost nothing new left. The 9s arrive with ONE new answer.
