How to use them

A thankful box on every page

Under each picture there's a box with one question that fits it. Next to the hot chocolate: something warm you're thankful for. Next to the boots holding hands: a friend. Coloring keeps hands busy, and busy hands make it easier to talk.

Ages 3 to 4: they color and tell you, you write it in the box. Ages 5 to 6: one word, or a little drawing. Ages 7 to 8: a sentence, with a “because” if they like.

Then ask one more thing: who made that happen? It's the Think step of Notice, Think, Feel, Do, and the part young children need a grown-up for.

In the book

I colored my memories and the moments when I felt grateful.

That's Fall, about the notebook he keeps. A coloring page with a thankful box is one page of a notebook like his.

In November

Thankful coloring pages for the Thanksgiving kids' table

Print the file with every page, put the stack and a jar of crayons on the kids' table, and let each child pick a picture. Before dessert, everyone holds theirs up and reads their thankful box. Thanksgiving is on Thursday 26 November 2026; in Canada it comes in October.

Our pictures are cozy rather than turkeys: a warm fire, a hot drink, two friends. That way they work on any thankful day of the year, not only in November.

More for the table: Thanksgiving question cards and a thankful placemat, or a thankful tree for the wall.

Four siblings, four seasons

Four seasons coloring pages

In the book, the four seasons are siblings who meet for one snowy evening. Color them one by one, all together, Summer at the beach or Winter in the snow. For what each season brings and why we have seasons at all, see the four seasons for kids.

Where the pictures come from

Every picture in Finding Gratitude was drawn in pencil, then painted. We took the illustrator's own pencil lines from the book's pages, without the paint, and darkened them so they print clearly. The bare tree is not in the book: we made it to match.

In the book's words
What do YOU think? What things are you grateful for today?

Questions

Grown-ups ask

Are these gratitude coloring pages free?

Yes. Every page is a free PDF in US Letter and A4, with no email and no account. They are free for home and classroom use. To share them, please share the link to this page rather than the files.

What age are they for?

Ages 4 to 8. The pictures have big, simple shapes for little hands. The thankful box under each picture works for every age: a 4 year old can draw in it or tell a grown-up what to write, and a 7 or 8 year old can write a sentence with a because.

What is the thankful box for?

It turns a coloring page into a small thankful moment. Each box asks one thing that matches the picture: something warm next to the hot chocolate, a friend next to the boots holding hands. Ask about it while they color. That chat is where the gratitude happens.

Can my child color on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Pick a picture and a color, then tap a shape to fill it. You can undo, start over, save the picture on your device or print it. Nothing is saved on our side or sent anywhere.

Who drew the pictures?

The pictures come from our picture book Finding Gratitude. We took the illustrator's own pencil lines from the book's pages, without the paint, and made them darker for printing. The bare tree is not from the book: we made it to match.

Do you have Thanksgiving coloring pages?

These are thankful coloring pages rather than turkeys: cozy pictures with a box for what each child is thankful for, which works well at a Thanksgiving kids' table. Print the file with every page and let each child pick one.

What is Finding Gratitude?

Our picture book for ages 4 to 8, coming this October. Four siblings, the four seasons, meet for one snowy evening, and Fall shows them the notebook where he colored the moments he felt grateful. The pictures on these pages come from it.
