How to write it
How to write n and N, in words
One line for each stroke, to read aloud while your child traces. On the sheets: the top line, the dashed middle line, and the base line, where the letters sit. If your child's school uses a different style, follow the school.
Small n
- Start at the green dot on the middle line. Go straight down to the base line.
- Dot 2, on that line between the middle line and the base line: go up and over in a hump, then straight down to the base line.
Capital N
- Start at the green dot on the top line. Go straight down to the base line.
- Dot 2: from the top of the line, slant down to the right, all the way to the base line. Then, without lifting the pencil, go straight up to the top line.

- Print the letter. The coloring page works well: your child colors it first, then it goes into hiding.
- While nobody is looking, hide it in something that starts with its sound: inside a folded napkin, between the pages of a notebook, or under the newspaper.
- Say the sound together, as the book does: “n, n, n... Where can n be?” When your child finds it, they trace it with a finger and shout “Got you, little n!”
