A letter from Santa
Santa writes back. He just needs a little help from you.
Type your child's name and two good things they did this year, pick a P.S. from the North Pole, and Santa's letter prints in his own handwriting, signed. For Christmas morning he leaves little notes as well, and his letters come in an envelope from the North Pole with a gold seal. If your child hasn't written to him yet, the letter to Santa comes first.
Made in your browser
Write Santa's reply
You decide what Santa says. The maker writes it out in his hand, signs it, and fits it to one page of North Pole paper, so a long list of good deeds only makes the writing a little smaller.
It never leaves your device: nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.
P.S. This year I'm flying my red balloon. If you hear a sweet little tune in the sky on Christmas Eve, that's me going past.
What you type for the letter is never kept: close the page and it's gone. Only the name stays on this device, for the other Christmas makers.
To keep a PDF, choose “Save as PDF” in the print window. Santa has already signed it. Fold it in three, then in half, and it fits the envelope from the North Pole.

For Christmas morning
Notes from Santa
On Christmas Eve Santa has no time for a whole letter, so he leaves a note. Here are twelve, signed, six to a page, and a page of blank ones for your own words.
From the North Pole
Thank you for the cookies! I ate every crumb. Well, nearly every crumb.

Dancer liked the carrot so much, he did a little dance. Of course he did.

The milk was just right. Exactly what a busy Santa needs at this time of night.

You were fast asleep when I came. Well done, that's the hardest part.

A snowman wrapped this present. Sorry about the wobbly bow.
Santa

My red balloon waited on your roof. Did you hear the music?
Santa

Keep being kind. It's my favorite thing about you.
Santa
From the North Pole
I chose this one especially for you. Look after it for me.
Santa
From the North Pole
Merry Christmas! I can't stay. There are still a lot of houses to go.
Santa
To put your child's name on every note, choose “Notes for Christmas morning” in the maker above. Without a name, they're in the free printables below. If Santa sends a Christmas Eve box ahead, a note on the lid says who it's from.
The little tricks
How to make it feel real
An envelope from the North Pole
Ours folds out of one sheet, with a stamp that only works at the North Pole. With a real envelope, write SANTA, NORTH POLE in capitals in the top left corner, the way USPS does.
Handwriting that isn't yours
Children know your loops better than you think. The maker writes in a handwriting font in Santa's dark blue ink. By hand, try your other hand, all capitals, or a pen they've never seen you use.
A gold seal on the flap
It's the bit they'll peel off and keep. Print the seals below, or use any gold star sticker, because Santa isn't fussy.
Where it turns up
Propped against the empty cookie plate, tucked in the branches of the tree, in the stocking, or between the pages of the book they read last night.
One thing only Santa would know
Put in one small true thing, like the wobbly tooth, the teddy's name or the brave day at the pool. It does more magic than a whole page of ho ho ho.
Paper ready for the answer
A letter from Santa often starts a second letter to Santa, full of questions. Keep a sheet of North Pole paper in the drawer for the reply to the reply.
United States
A real North Pole postmark
USPS will stamp your own reply with a North Pole postmark. You write the letter, they do the postmark, and your child gets real mail from Santa. Here's how, from the USPS page:
- 1Write Santa's reply and sign it from Santa. (The USPS list of supplies asks for two different pens.)
- 2Put your child's letter and Santa's reply in an envelope addressed to your child, with a First-Class stamp.
- 3Write the return address SANTA, NORTH POLE in the top left corner.
- 4Put that envelope inside a bigger one, with postage on it too, and post it to the postmaster in Anchorage.

Questions
Grown-ups ask
How do I write a letter from Santa?
Start with what only Santa would know: two good things your child did this year, the name of a pet, the wish from their letter. Type them into the maker on this page, pick a P.S. from the North Pole, and print it on our North Pole paper, already signed. If you'd rather write, print the letter to fill in and do the blanks by hand.
What should a letter from Santa say?
Their name, a thank you for their letter if they wrote one, two good things they did this year, and something to look forward to. Keep it to one page: that's about as long as a 4 year old will listen. And leave out the naughty list. Santa noticing the good things is far more magic than Santa keeping score, which is why our nice list certificate has kind things on it and nothing else.
When should a letter from Santa arrive?
A reply feels real a week or two after your child posts their own letter, the way mail does. A letter that isn't a reply belongs to Christmas morning, by the empty cookie plate or tucked in the tree. For the USPS North Pole postmark, USPS suggests mailing between November 23 and December 1.
How do I make Santa's handwriting look different from mine?
Let the maker do it: it prints the letter in a handwriting font, in Santa's dark blue ink, with his signature already drawn (our gift tags from Santa carry the same one). By hand, the simplest trick is to write with your other hand. Wobbly is fine. Santa is very, very old.
Is it OK to write Santa's letter ourselves?
Yes. It's a family game as old as Santa's mail, and nobody knows what your child did this year better than you do.
Can a letter from Santa have a real North Pole postmark?
In the United States, yes, and you still write it yourself. The stamped reply, addressed to your child, travels inside a bigger stamped envelope to NORTH POLE POSTMARK, POSTMASTER, 4141 POSTMARK DR, ANCHORAGE AK 99530-9998, and comes back with a North Pole postmark. Mail it between November 23 and December 1, USPS suggests. In Canada, the United Kingdom and New Zealand, the post office answers children's letters itself.
Is anything I type in the maker sent anywhere?
No. Santa's letter is put together in your browser and printed from there. Only the name is kept, on this device, so the letter to Santa and the other Christmas makers can use it (Clear takes it away). The good things, the extra line and the P.S. vanish when you close the page. We count that something was printed and which choices were picked, never what you typed.
