Christmas elf names
Every elf at the North Pole has a name. To find your child's, all you need is the first letter of their name and the month they were born.
Type a name, pick a month, and the maker puts the two halves together. Marshmallow Daisychain, anyone? If it doesn't fit, press Spin again. Then print elf badges to wear or an elf ID card, signed by Santa. Further down there are 100 more elf names, a chart for the classroom, and an elf of our own who'd like to say hello.

Find your elf name
The first letter of the name gives the first half, a word that starts with the same letter. The month they were born gives the second half. Big brothers, grandmas and the dog can have one too.
Just the first letter works too. It never leaves your device: nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.

Our own book
The Christmas Secret
A Christmas Eve picture book with a read-along · ages 3 to 7 · out on October 20
There isn't a single elf in The Christmas Secret. At Santa's secret circus in the mountains, the presents are made by snowmen, and the snowmen sing while they work. So if your newly named elf ever needs a hand, now they know who to ask.
Snowmen who could talk and sing were busy making presents and carrying them to the big tent in the middle of this strange Christmas circus!
Questions
Grown-ups ask
What are Santa's elves called?
The old stories never named them. In the 1823 poem that gave us the reindeer's names, the only elf is Santa himself, “a right jolly old elf”. You'll see six elf names copied all over the internet, but nobody knows who made them up, so we left them out. Every film and every family names its own elves, and that's the fun part.
Sources, checked 12 Oct 2026: the 1823 poem at Representative Poetry Online, University of Toronto Libraries; L. Frank Baum, The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus (1902), Project Gutenberg.
How do you make an elf name?
What are some funny elf names for kids?
Noodle Wobblebottom, Pickle Puddingpants, Kazoo Bananafeet and Fiddlesticks Fuzzlewump, for a start. There are 25 silly ones in our list of 100, and the maker knows 2,808 more. Our guess: anything with socks in it gets the biggest laugh from a five year old.
What do Santa's elves do?
Whatever the story needs. In most of them the elves make the toys, wrap the presents and look after the reindeer. Ours also sign the gift tags, and one of them sends a little door by email every morning in December. On Christmas Eve they wave the sleigh off, and then, at last, they put their feet up.
Can we use these names for the toy elf who visits our house?
Of course. If a little elf turns up at your house in December and still has no name, pick one from the list. Some families give theirs a family name instead, from the first letter of their last name and December, and then print it a badge to make it official.
Is my child's name sent anywhere?
No. The maker works in your browser. The name stays on this device for the other Christmas makers, until you press Clear, and the birth month is gone as soon as you close the page. We count that someone printed a badge, never what was on it.
