Times tables test
Take your time, or try quick fire: 25 questions, six seconds each.
A multiplication quiz with two speeds
10 questions on the 2s, the 5s and the 10s. No account. The answers stay in this browser and are never sent to us.
After the last question
A score, and then a chart of your own
A score is one number. It says how today went and nothing about what to do tomorrow. So under the score the test paints a multiplication chart, and every fact it asked gets one of three colors.
Green
Right, and inside three seconds. The typing counts too, so a child who knows the answer but hunts for the keys may see orange instead.
Orange
Right, but it took longer than three seconds. These are nearly there. One more good go and they turn green.
Red
Wrong, or the clock ran out on an empty box. This is where to start, and it is usually a short list.
Three seconds is our own line. No rule and no study is behind it. It is roughly the difference between knowing an answer and working it out.
White squares have not been asked yet. Take the test again and the chart fills in. The flash cards write on the same chart, and you can see it any time on the multiplication chart page and on the times tables page. It is called My chart there.
Under the chart are three buttons: the red facts as flash cards, the red facts as a worksheet to print, and the table that has the most red squares.

A times tables certificate to print
For the fridge. It carries the name you type, the score of the test you just finished, today's date and a dragon. If the test was on ONE table, it is that table's dragon.
The name is put on the certificate inside your browser. It is not saved and it is never sent to us.
No test has been finished on this page yet, so the certificate has two lines to fill in by hand. Take the test and the score writes itself.
One page, upright. It fits US Letter and A4.

Times tables test, printable: four tests on paper
Each test has 25 questions from the 2 to 12 times tables, and no fact comes twice on a sheet. Tests 1, 2 and 3 together ask every fact from 2 × 2 to 12 × 12 at least once. That is all 66 of them. Test 4 is a fresh mix. The answers are on page 2.
To run one as quick fire, give two and a half minutes. That is six seconds a question.

For parents in England
The Year 4 multiplication tables check
In England a "times tables test" usually means one thing: the check every Year 4 class takes in June. This is how the government's leaflet for parents describes it.
“It is an onscreen check consisting of 25 times table questions. Your child will be able to answer 3 practice questions before taking the actual check. They will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.”
The 2027 dates are set: Schools must administer the multiplication tables check within the 2-week period from Monday 7 June 2027.
(GOV.UK) And the leaflet is plain about the result: Your child’s teacher will share your child’s score with you. There is no pass mark for the check.
(GOV.UK)
Quick fire at the top of this page has the same shape, with 25 questions, six seconds for each and a number pad on the screen. It is our own practice and NOT the official check, which children take at school.
Practice for the multiplication tables check
That page starts with three practice questions, as the check does. It also has a ten week plan and everything else the government says about the check, in its own words.
Where this comes from
Every line in quote marks is from one of these GOV.UK pages, word for word. We read them on October 2, 2026.
- Multiplication tables check: information for parents (Standards and Testing Agency, updated 15 September 2025). The leaflet schools give to parents.
- Primary assessments: future dates (Standards and Testing Agency and Department for Education, updated 1 September 2026). The dates schools must keep free.
Questions
Grown-ups ask
- How many questions are in the times tables test?
- Take your time has 10 or 25, whichever you choose. Quick fire always has 25. Each of the four paper tests on this page has 25 too.
- Is the times tables test timed?
- Only if you want it to be. Take your time has no clock at all. Quick fire gives six seconds for each question and a three second pause before the next one. The six seconds start when the question is on the screen, so a slow phone or tablet costs your child nothing.
- Which times tables are in the test?
- In Take your time you pick them, any mix from 1 to 12. Quick fire uses the tables from 2 to 12. In both, the other number runs from 2 to 12, because a number times 1 is the number itself. 7 × 8 and 8 × 7 count as one fact, and a test never asks a fact twice while your tables still hold one it has not asked.
- What is a good score on a times tables test?
- We don't set a pass mark. A score tells you where a child is today, and the chart under the score tells you more: WHICH facts are missing. England's Year 4 check has no pass mark either. The government's leaflet for parents says:
There is no pass mark for the check.
(GOV.UK) - What does the test remember about my child?
- Which facts were asked, whether each one was right, how long it took and the day. No name, no account, and nothing is sent to us: the chart is kept in your own browser, on the phone or tablet or laptop you are using. Safari clears it after seven days without a visit. The name on the certificate is not kept at all. To empty the chart yourself, use the link under the three piles on the flash cards page.
- Can I print a times tables test?
- Yes. There are four tests on this page, each with 25 questions and an answer page, in US Letter and A4. For a sheet on one table only, or on the facts your child got wrong, use the worksheet maker.
- Is this the Year 4 multiplication tables check?
- No. The check is taken at school in England, on the government's own system. Quick fire has the same shape, 25 questions with six seconds each, so it works as practice. The check has a page of its own here, with three practice questions first.
- Does the test work on a phone or tablet?
- Yes. A number pad is drawn on the page, so no keyboard slides up over the question. On a laptop the number keys, Backspace and Enter do the same job.
Our own book
The book for the red squares
For grown-ups · it comes out in November 2026
The chart tells you WHICH answers to work on. For the HOW there is our times tables book: every table has its own blackboard, the answers you already know stand in orange, two answers in each table carry a star, and the book's tricks show a way to the hard ones.
It also shows why there are 45 facts to learn and not 100, and which table to take first. If your chart is mostly red, start there.
