Fall's Notebook

A video with Fall, about a minute and a half. Sound on; the words are on the screen.

Tonight's thankful question

What three good things did you see today?

Ask it at bedtime, after the video, then listen. Your own answer counts too.

Fall's 7 Thankful Nights

In our picture book Finding Gratitude, Fall keeps a notebook of the moments he felt grateful. It has seven secret pages, one for every night of the week, and each one has a picture to color and a thankful question for bedtime. Tonight is the first page.

How it works

Each page of Fall's notebook is a short video, about a minute and a half, with a gentle voice and the book's own music. Watch it together at bedtime with the sound on, then ask the thankful question and listen. The picture to color is for the next day, or for right now.

Seven pages, seven small habits

Notice three good things. Stay still with a pretend hot chocolate. Think of who helped. Feel where thankful lives. Hide a secret thank you note. Start a family box of gratitude. Fill your own four boxes, like Fall.

Nothing about your child

No sign-up for page one, no microphone, and nothing for your child to type. The pictures are colored on paper or on your phone or tablet, and nothing is sent to us. For pages 2 to 7 we need only a grown-up's email.

The seven pages

  1. Page 1: Fall's Notebook. Notice: Fall's notebook and three good things from today, one gold star each.
  2. Page 2: Just Stay Still. Just pause: a pretend cup of hot chocolate, smell it for four, cool it for six, three slow breaths.
  3. Page 3: The Warm Boots. Think: the warm boots a friend lent Fall. Who helped make a good thing happen?
  4. Page 4: The Warm Feeling. Feel: where does the warm, thankful feeling sit? One slow breath to find it.
  5. Page 5: A Secret Thank You. Do: a secret thank you note to hide. Fall writes one to Foo.
  6. Page 6: The Box of Gratitude. Do, together: the family box of gratitude, in Katia's words from the book.
  7. Page 7: Four Boxes. All four: your own four boxes, like Fall's, and goodnight from all four seasons.
